Description: Fox Homeschoolers Chicago Science Olympiad Team (ages 10-14 as of Sept. 1st)

In-person meetings once/month hosted by MAGE at (address) and remote meetings once/month via Zoom

Additional meetings per participant schedules may be necessary; and parent participation required at competitions

Science Olympiad is a national program offering 23 competitive events across five domains of science. Events range from traditional tests, builds, labs and combinations of theses types. Registered and paid students are granted access to a learning management system of resources, an on-demand (but required!) Study Skill course, a team member preparation workbook, a team t-shirt and one competition (but they will likely participate in up to four!). Join us for a remote information session and remote event overview!

*We have reserved the hour of 12PM to 1PM to be open to enrolled students for a lunch space. Families are welcome to bring a lunch, socialize and play before class during that time, but are responsible for supervising their own children.

Ages: 10-14 as of Sept 1

Required skills:

  • Students need to have age-appropriate social, emotional, and classroom skills.

  • Students will need to have the maturity to follow the code of conduct that will be explained on the first day.

  • Must be able to work closely and cooperatively with other students.

Dates: Saturdays, 10:30AM-11:30AM In-person meetings once/month hosted by MAGE and teacher will conduct remote meetings once/month via Zoom.

Please note, there is no class on: November 28, 2019, for Thanksgiving.

Price: x sessions $x ($x each additional sibling). Drop-in: not allowed. Rolling Enrollment: at the teacher’s discretion

Parent expectation:

  • This is a parent-intensive program but we give you all the guidance and support of what you need to do. You will have copies of all of what they are doing so that you can follow along.

  • Parents will need to take on volunteer obligations on competition day,

  • Parents have to oversee student progress in preparing for their event,

  • Parents will need to select a parent to coordinate with the coach.

Not included in Price: travels hotel the night before, Indianapolis tournament not included. overnight.

Cancellations/Inclement weather: If we cancel in the event of a teacher illness or inclement weather, class will be cancelled, and the class fee will be refunded for that lesson. We will follow Chicago Public Schools school closing decisions. There will be no refund for enrolling if you wish to withdraw before the end of the class. If you are not sure you wish to enroll, please come to the Open House to try it for free.

Required Supplies:

  • build materials that each $50-$100

  • A water bottle that is easy to carry

  • A backpack (light/small is ok, for journal, water bottle, ventra card.

Attire: Please wear closed-toe shoes that are comfortable for walking. We will be walking for up to 40 minutes outside and also around the gallery spaces on field trip days. Please wear clothing that you can get dirty that is appropriate for weather, and please put on sunblock before class. We will not be able to provide or apply sunblock.

Food: no food during class, water is fine. Please note, no nuts or chocolate on premises.
