Odyssey of the Mind
Pardon the construction dust: please be aware that a designated caregiver has to stay on site until we receive the city permit for drop offs. Once we receive city approval, we will notify you that you can now drop off your child.
Instructor: Irene Gottlieb
Description: Students will creatively solve one of the Odyssey of the Mind Challenges for the 2019-2020 school year. Students pick one problem from this year’s problem list. Younger students will present their solutions in an exhibition, while older students will compete. The problems are cross-disciplinary and require a huge amount of collaboration and imagination. Teams can have up to 7 members. We can have multiple teams. Teams can’t be told by adults what to do, they have to be guided and coached to come up with their own solutions.
Price: The team will run for 2 terms until the end of the season in April. This is only the fall term registration, the competition is in the next term. 6 weeks: $160, Siblings 140, Drop-in: no. Rolling admission: teacher discretion in the first session only. This club will have 2 sessions, fall and winter, until the competition in April. This price covers the team national and state competition registration, meeting space, and coaching. The next session’s membership will include team tee shirts, a few of the pins that kids get, and possibly some of the supplies for the final projects.
Dates: This class meets on select Mondays for 50 minutes. (We are tallying weekday or weekend interest. Please contact admissions if you wish to participate at those other times, we need just 2 more to start a weekend team as well.)

Supplies (approximately $150 per team that would need to be split between members, and could be more if some are one time use items that are used up and need to be replenished. This number can be reduced by recycling and repurposing creatively. We may collect some of that funding through second term membership. Some of the items, if they are used up for practice, may need to be bought or found for the competition again.
Required Supplies/Contribution: personal water bottle. Families will have to help source the stuff the children need to solve their problems, either by pitching in towards supply or by helping find items to reuse or repurpose. Families will need to volunteer to support individual teams.
This class has 20 spaces.
