Gifted Social Skills Group

Pardon the construction dust, but please be aware that a designated caregiver has to stay on site until we receive the city permit for drop offs. Once we receive city approval, we will notify you that you can now drop off your child.

Ages: 6-12

Instructor: Aileen Kelleher, www.aileenkelleher.com

Description: Due to asynchronous development, some gifted kids need time and space to develop their social skills with other gifted peers and a clinician who understands giftedness. Gifted kids need a unique environment to support social differences that can arise from giftedness itself. This social skills group will be an opportunity for gifted children to learn and practice ways of relating with others, while also building their self-esteem. Each week we will focus on a different skill and the session will be comprised of initial discussion about the skill, modeling from the therapist, practicing the skill through a game or activity and then a debrief talking about questions or feelings kids have about the skill. A survey will be emailed to all registrants prior to the start of class to help inform the instruction, and parents are welcome to bring an envelope of any relevant documentation to the open house, as a reference for the session. This class is created for children that are shy, anxious, or confused in social situations and could use additional support to build confidence and expand social skills. It is not designed for children with any bullying or aggression challenges. Please email admissions if you have a question about fit for your child.
