English Language Arts for Homeschoolers in grades 5-8

Price: 10 sessions: $250, Siblings $225, Drop-in $25 if the teacher approves. Make-up: not available for this class as it is only offered once a week.
Free Open House Class: Tuesday, October 1, 2019, 11:00AM-11:45AM
Description: Description: This is a combination reading and writing class, that will be tailored to each child’s interests and reading level. Students will read and analyze a variety materials and then begin the journey of writing their very own.
We have reserved the hour of 12PM to 1PM to be open to enrolled students for a lunch space. Families are welcome to bring a lunch, socialize and play before or after class during that time, but are responsible for supervising their own children and cleaning up after themselves.
Ages: 10-14, email us if you feel your child will be best served by this age range class without being this age. Please note that a 1-3 grade Comic Books Language Arts is also offered twice a week, and that there is an English Language Arts for Homeschoolers in grades 2-4 as well as a 2E Language Arts class in the schedule if you need other options.

Please note, there is no class on: November 26, 2019, for Thanksgiving.
Students need to have age-appropriate social, emotional, and classroom skills.
Students need to be at age-grade level at a minimum, to take this class. If your student is behind in language arts, please consider our 2e reading class instead.
Students will need to have the maturity to follow the code of conduct, for example about being respectful, keeping hands to themselves around other children, moving at walking speed, and using indoor voices, and appropriate electronics use during class.
Cancellations/Inclement weather: In the event of a teacher illness or inclement weather, class will be cancelled, and the class fee will be refunded for this lesson. We will follow Chicago Public Schools closing decisions. There will be no refund for enrolling if you wish to withdraw before the end of the class. If you are not sure you wish to enroll, please come to the Open House to try it for free.
A water bottle
Assistive technology if required/if a child prefers to dictate or to type.
Computer or Ipad with a word processing app and a keyboard, if a child knows how to type and how to use the device, and prefers this to writing by hand.
Price Does Not Include:
There may need to be a rented or purchased book under $15 for this class.
Students may need to bring a personal smart device to class.
We accept checks and prefer that form of payment. There is a $25 bounced check fee.
If you choose to pay with a credit card, we will have to charge you a $5-$10 credit card processing fee.
Food: no food during class, water is fine. Please note, no nuts or chocolate on premises.
